On Wednesday, January 14, 2015, the 2015-2016 Oakland County Board of Commissioners began their new session after being sworn-in by Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds Lisa Brown in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium in Pontiac, Michigan. Family, friends, elected officials, and special local talent joined the commissioners to help make the inauguration memorable. Oakland County Chief Circuit Judge Nanci J. Grant began ceremony giving the invocation. Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard, along with the Oakland County Honor Guard led in presenting the flag and the Pledge of Allegiance.
The press release also stated that Alexis Sargent, a Lake Orion High School Senior, who was selected to the 2014 National High School association for Music National Honors Choir for High School students, sang the national anthem. Musical performances were also given by Olivia Millerschin of Rochester Hills, who was a finalist in the 2014 “America’s Got Talent” show and a 2014 John Lennon Songwriter Contest Winner, and the Gentlemen Songsters Chorus, which celebrated its 75th Anniversary recently and is the current Pioneer District Chorus Champions. Each was presented with a proclamation acknowledging their participation in the 2015 Inauguration Ceremony and recognized for their achievements.
The Board also honored a future United States Marine DeMarco J. Wilson, who graduated of top of his class on the ASVAB exam and was the only one of the 17 recruit candidates to complete the entry process. He will depart for basic training for the United States Marine Corps on January 20 and is a recent Lake Orion Options High School graduate.
Oakland County Chairman Michael J. Gingell and Vice Chairman Jeff Matis Retain their Leadership Roles as the 21-member Board of Commissioners vote unanimously to elect them.
Members of the 2015-2016 Oakland County Board of Commissioners will serve on the following Oakland County Board Committees:
Jeff Matis, (R) will remain the vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and will remain on the Board’s Finance Committee.
Thomas F. Middleton (R) will remain as chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee and will serve on the Board’s Human Resources Committee.
Eileen T. Kowall (R) will serve as Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee Vice Chairperson and will serve on the Board’s Planning and Building Committee.
David Woodward (D) retains minority-vice chairmanship on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee and will serve on the Board’s General Government Committee. He is also serving as the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Democratic Caucus Chairperson.
Christine A. Long (R) will remain as chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee and will continue to serve on the Board’s Finance Committee.
Shelley Goodman Taub (R) will serve as majority vice chairperson of the General Government Committee and will remain on the Board’s Finance Committee. She is also retaining her leadership role as the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Republican Caucus Chairperson.
Marcia Gershenson (D) will serve as the minority vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee and will serve as the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Democratic Caucus Vice Chairperson.
Michael Spisz (R) will serve as the new chairperson of Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Human Resources Committee and continue to serve as vice chairperson of the Board’s Public Services Committee.
Bob Hoffman (R) will serve as the new chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Human Resources Committee and remain on the Board’s General Government Committee. He will also serve as the new vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Republican Caucus.
Helaine Zack (D) will serve as the new minority vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Human Resources Committee and remain on the Board’s Finance Committee.
Philip J. Weeper (R) will serve as the new chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Planning & Building Committee and will serve on the Board’s Human Resources Committee.
Robert Gosselin (R) will remain as vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Planning & Building Committee and will serve on the General Government Committee.
Gary McGillivray (D) will remain as the minority-vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Planning & Building Committee and will remain a member of the Board’s Planning and Building Committee.
Bill Dwyer (R) will remain as chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Public Services Committee and will remain a member of the Board’s Planning & Building Committee.
Janet Jackson (D) will serve as the new minority-vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Public Services Committee and will serve on the Board’s Planning & Building Committee.
John A. Scott (R) will serve as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Planning & Building Committee and serve on the Board’s Public Services Committee.
Hugh D. Crawford (R) will serve as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee and will serve on the Board’s Planning & Building Committee.
David Bowman (D) will serve as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Human Resources Committee and will serve on the Board’s Planning & Building Committee.
Wade Fleming (R) will serve as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee and will serve on the Board’s Human Resources Committee.
