Opening Day at the Rochester Farmers’ Market

Searching for a sure sign of spring? Head to the Downtown Rochester Farmers’ Market on Opening Day, Saturday, May 4.

Celebrating its 14th season, the Farmers’ Market is a frequent stop for area residents to enjoy the vibrant colors, aromas and flavors of southeast Michigan’s growing season. Located at the corner of E. Third and Water Street, just one block east of Main Street, the market is open every Saturday, May 4 through Saturday, October 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. image001-2

“The positive energy at Opening Day is contagious,” said Nancy Voges, Marketing Coordinator for the Rochester Downtown Development Authority.  “Shopping at the Downtown Rochester Farmers’ Market is a great way to access fresh, locally grown products, strengthen the local economy and connect with the community.”

This season, four newcomers join our family of vendors: James Creek Sutlery with meat rubs, gourmet salts, naturally grown spices and aged & raw cane sugars; Kan-Dee-Barn with homemade candy and roasted nuts; Stephensons Group with roasted beans and Khom Fai with fresh prepared Thai food.

Opening Day festivities will include:

  • FREE Farmers’ Market Tote Bags sponsored by Kidz 1st Pediatrics filled with special offers from your favorite downtown Rochester businesses for the first 500 adult customers
  • Live music by blues artist, Paul Miles, sponsored by Sweet Island Yogurt
  • FREE Pot-a-plant children’s activity and a scavenger hunt for Pete the Pineapple, sponsored by Moon River Soap Company and Froggy’s Toy Stop
  • Enter-to-win one of more than 20, $25 gift certificates donated by downtown Rochester businesses
  • Enter-to-win the Harvest Basket Drawing for a plethora of products donated by market vendors

The market features only Michigan-grown (or made) products including vegetables, fruits, flowers, container gardens, fresh cut flowers, herbs, homemade baked goods, gnocchi, jams and jellies, honey, maple syrup, locally roasted coffee and various certified organic products including eggs, beef and chicken.
