2013 MI Green Hall of Fame Inductees to be Recognized at MI Earth Day Fest

MI Green Team is pleased to announce the winners of the third annual MI Green Hall of Fame Awards. The award recognizes the dedication and achievement of some of Michigan’s most significant green leaders in business, community service, academia and media. The 2013 MI Green Hall of Fame inductees include:

Marilyn Trent – Marilyn Trent – Owner of Trent Design, founder and past chairperson of the Green City Committee of Rochester. The committee was the first of its kind, in the nation, as part of a Downtown Development Authority. It has been inspiring the community to invest in its future through the adoption of green initiatives since 2008. It was also the catalyst for the first Earth Day Expo in Downtown Rochester, first annual bicycle event; Two Wheelin’ It To Rochester, best green practices educational series at the Farmers Market and reinstated recycling to the DDA district.

“Marilyn is a champion for downtown and the environment,” said Kristi Trevarrow, Rochester DDA Executive Director.  “Her creativity, dedication and drive to make things happen is unmatched and Rochester is a proud beneficiary of her efforts.

Kenneth Cockrel Jr. – Detroit City Council president, founder and chair of the Detroit Green Task Force whose mission is to implement sustainable environmental practices in Detroit which have positive long-term economic, social, and environmental impacts on the city.

Jim Corcoran – Co-founder and past president of VegMichigan, one of largest vegetarian advocacy organizations in the United States; co-founder of Plant Peace Daily; founder of Santa Fe Veg; and co-founder of VegFund, an international vegan activism organization.

Jim Nash – Oakland County Water Resource Commissioner, organizer and host of seven annual Green Building Workshops; co-founder of the first two Oakland County Green Building Summits; and founding member of the Regional Partnership for Sustainability.

Winners will be honored at the MI Earth Day Fest Kickoff & Awards Ceremony at 7 pm on Friday, April 26 on the Meijer Main Stage, emceed by a Fox 2 TV personality. Also to be recognized are elementary school student winners of the My Green School Art Contest presented by the Green Schools Committee of the US Green Building Council – Detroit Regional Chapter.
