On Tuesday, March 5, Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) welcomes self-proclaimed “reluctant-traveler” Nancy Solak to discuss her newly released travel memoir.

Solak never planned on spending so much time in China, but when her son moved there to study and eventually married, those plans changed. Over the years she’s been to China and back several times, twice to visit her son and once on a five-week long trip with her son’s Chinese language class years later.
“In my book I wanted to take an honest look at what it’s like to be a traveler who tends to be more on the nervous side,” said Solak. “There’s so many great travel accounts, but few that speak to the travelers who don’t necessarily start their travels out of passion to see the world.”
Each of her trips brought many challenges to the table that tested Solak’s mettle. Her ability to cope and adapt was put to the test as she time and time again stepped outside of her comfort zone.
“Nancy Solak has a unique traveling perspective that I am eager to share with our patrons,” said Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighley. “Her presentation will bring our patrons up close and personal with the many wonders of China without ever leaving the comfort of your chair.”
The program is March 5 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room and is open to everyone with an RHPL library card. This program is geared toward adults but all ages are welcome. Please register in advance at rhpl.org.
