Actress, former “Little House on the Prairie” star, and now proud Michigander Melissa Gilbert announced today that she is running for the Democratic seat in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. Last year U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R) decided not to seek another term, which caused many in Michigan politics, including Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett, to throw their hat into the ring for consideration. Ultimately, Mike Bishop won the Republican seat and that is who Gilbert will face in the November election.
This is Gilbert’s first political run, but from 2001 to 2005 she was the president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).
