The contractor for Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills, expects to begin the resurfacing of Adams Road between South Boulevard and Auburn Road on the Rochester Hills/Auburn Hills border either next Wednesday, Aug. 10, or Thursday, Aug. 11.
During most of the project, the road will remain open to traffic, though there will be intermittent lane closures. During the lane closures, traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
The road will be closed for a three-week period from approximately Aug. 15 to Sept. 2. During that time, the detour route for through traffic will be South Boulevard to Crooks Road to Auburn Road and back to Adams Road and vice versa.
Access to all homes and businesses within the project area will be maintained at all times throughout the project, though some side streets may be closed at times if there is an alternate access to the streets. Motorists should expect delays throughout the project, and those traveling to destinations outside the construction zone are encouraged to use an alternate route.
The project will provide a smooth new road surface and safety enhancements. Work will include pavement repairs, adding a center left-turn lane to the northern one-third mile of the project (from Woodcrest Street to Auburn Road), adding right-turn lanes for turning into some side streets and the application of three inches of new asphalt.
The project also includes pedestrian crosswalk upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The project is expected to be completed by November.
The project is expected to cost approximately $1.4 million. Of that, approximately $540,000 is being paid for with federal funds. Oakland County general government is contributing $85,000 (through the Tri-Party Program), the Road Commission is contributing $450,000, the City of Rochester Hills is adding $255,000 and the City of Auburn Hills is providing $85,000.
