The first recital of the 2015-2016 Chamber Music Society of Detroit at Oakland University series will feature pianist Angela Cheng, who takes the stage at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 in OU’s Varner Recital Hall.
Selections performed by Cheng include: Haydn’s Sonata No. 60 in C major,Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 2 in D minor, and three works by Chopin: the Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61, and Ballade Nos. 1 in G minor and 4 in F minor.
Cheng was a Gold Medalist of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, as well as the first Canadian to win the prestigious Montreal International Piano Competition. In addition to regular guest appearances with virtually every orchestra in Canada, Cheng has performed with the Colorado, Houston, Indianapolis, Saint Louis, San Diego, Utah and Syracuse Symphony Orchestras in the U.S., as well as in Europe and South America.
At the invitation of Pinchas Zukerman, Cheng has made multiple tours of the U.S. and Canada, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia with the Zukerman Trio and with Pinchas Zukerman as his collaborative pianist, including a recital with Mr. Zukerman at the prestigious Saltzberg Festival, and chamber music concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, the 92nd Street Y in New York, the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and St. Petersburg/Stars of the White Nights Festivals.
