Oakland County Animal Control Division has sent the rest of the surviving cats that were discovered in an animal hoarding situation in Royal Oak last week to a private animal rescue group that wishes to remain anonymous.
“We are grateful that this rescue group stepped up to the challenge of taking these cats in and treating them for various illnesses,” said Mark Newman, director of public services for Oakland County, who oversees Animal Control Division. “I’m also proud of our animal control staff whose compassion was evident in relentlessly working to find the best possible outcome for these cats.”
As of last Thursday, 43 of the 84 Royal Oak cats remained at the Oakland County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills after two private animal rescue groups came in to take a total of 37 cats. Animal Control staff continued to work with one of these two animal rescue groups which agreed to take 29 more cats. That same group will pick up the remaining three cats this week.
A total of five Royal Oak cats were humanely euthanized because they were very ill.
