Arbor Day with the Rochester Tree Committee

The Rochester Tree Committee celebrated the 150th Anniversary of Arbor Day last month. The City of Rochester participated with activities and tree plantings in the Rochester Municipal Park to honor the role trees play in building a healthy community and beautifying our city. In addition, Rochester has been honored as a “Tree City” by Tree City USA for eight consecutive years.

Rochester Tree Committee members and local leaders plant a White Oak for Arbor Day 2022.

The City of Rochester has prioritized trees in our community through the work of the Tree Committee. The committee is proud to report that 30% tree coverage goal has been reached and work continues on the preservation of the tree canopy for future generations.

The Rochester Tree Committee is committed to planting 100 trees within public right of ways and within residential areas. You can find out how to be a part of this though the tree-bate program on the Rochester tree website.

To this end, this spring a diverse collection of trees will be planted along Letica Drive, as well as a grove of Sugar Maple trees will be planted in the community garden that will enhance the visitor experience. Please make plans this summer to bring your family to the garden to enjoy this beautiful communal area.

On the Tree Zone page dedicated to our community trees you will find resources and activities for children too. We invite you to become involved and seek out some of our community trees in your neighborhood such as the White Pine (the state tree of Michigan), the Sugar Maple, and Black Cherry.  The committee will be focused on adding more community events, celebrations, and educational content.
