According to the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will close Avon Road at the bridge over the Clinton River, near Dequindre Road in Rochester Hills from July 21 through Aug. 8 in order to perform heavy maintenance on the bridge.
During the closure, the detour route for Avon traffic will be Dequindre Road to Hamlin Road to Ryan Road to 23 Mile Road and back to Avon and vice versa.
The work will include removing some of the existing asphalt surface on the bridge, installing a waterproof membrane and placing new asphalt. While the bridge is expected to be re-opened by Aug. 8, work will continue on the project outside the traveled lanes until approximately Oct. 10.
The project is expected to cost approximately $150,000, and will be paid for completely with RCOC funds. The work will help to extend the life of the bridge and prevent having to prematurely replace the bridge, which could cost several million dollars and require closing the road for up to six months.
