Avondale approves all-day kindergarten

Avondale will join a growing number of school districts in offering all-day kindergarten beginning next fall.

The board of education approved the change at its February 6 meeting. Superintendent George Heitsch said the decision was prompted by financial incentives from the state and increased readiness for school of the children in the Avondale community.

“We are excited by this change. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and parents,” Heitsch said. Avondale encompasses portions of Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Township and Troy.

There will be a new Kindergarten Information Night on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Avondale High School Performing Arts Center. The annual kindergarten round-up will take place in April and information will be provided on that at a later date. In the meantime, questions about kindergarten enrollment should be directed to the enrollment office at (248) 537-6039.
