Twelve Avondale High School artists earned 2018 Southeastern Michigan Scholastic Art Awards. Scholastic Art awards are considered top honors for students in grades 7 through 12 and often – through scholarships and recognition – present opportunity for post-high school Art studies for students. The organization is considered the most prestigious Art award program across the country, giving students recognition on a local level and the chance to have their work adjudicated on the national level as well.
Avondale’s honorees this year include senior, Ava Greig – awarded a Gold Key for her portfolio entitled “Things That I Hear” as well as an Honorable Mention in jewelry and junior Crystal Czarniecki – awarded a Gold Key in ceramics & glass. Additionally, students receiving a Silver Key are senior Will Fahoome (drawing), senior Tyler Laura (ceramics and glass), junior Lillia Stenger (drawing), and senior Emma Zittritsch (drawing). Students awarded an Honorable Mention include senior Elena Blatt (painting), junior Allison Drabek (ceramics and glass), junior Lucas Dworack (ceramics and glass), senior Ava Greig (jewelry), sophomore Troy Kroell (jewelry), sophomore Anthony Palombit (jewelry) and junior Lauren Walsh (drawing). Ava and Crystal’s Gold Key work will go on to New York City to be adjudicated nationally.
