Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, announces the retirement of nine district teachers, para-professionals and longtime administrators. The retirees are:
- Fred Cromie, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services; joined the district in 2002 and served as the Avondale High School principal from 2002 to 2012.
- Marsha Wharton, Director of Student Achievement; joined the district in 2000 as Auburn Elementary principal, a role she held until 2013.
- Linda Curry, special education teacher at Woodland Elementary; joined the district in 1996.
- Nancy Dolehanty, teacher consultant for Auburn Elementary and Deerfield Elementary; joined the district in 1982.
- Linda Maniago, elementary teacher at Auburn Elementary; joined the district in 1994.
- Delia Niezguski, Spanish teacher at Avondale High School; joined the district in 1994.
- Susan Coyle, para-educator at Avondale Middle School; joined the district in 1993.
- Beverly McKinney, para-educator at Auburn Elementary; joined the district in 1971.
- Colette Woodside-Wendrick, para-educator, Avondale Middle School; joined the district in 2014.
“We congratulate our Avondale retirees on a well-earned retirement and thank them for the unique contribution they made to the district – and particularly to our students,” Dr. James Schwarz, Avondale Superintendent, said. “Collectively, they reflect the dedication to education and to our student community that sets Avondale apart.”
An event saluting the new Avondale retirees was held on June 11 at River Crest in Rochester Hills.
