Avondale School District will host a dedication ceremony for the newly named Chuck Nurek Field House on Thursday, March 1. The event is open to the public; alumni and former athletes are encouraged to attend.
Nurek served as the Athletic Director at Avondale High School from 1978 to 1999. Last November, the board of education voted to name the field house after him based on his outstanding service and dedication to Avondale.
“This will be a big day in Avondale’s history and we want current and former Avondale community members to celebrate with us,” said Avondale Superintendent George Heitsch. “Chuck Nurek’s contributions to Avondale go far beyond athletics; his legacy is one of leadership and character.”
The naming ceremony will take place at approximately 6:30 p.m., immediately following the Avondale boys’ junior varsity basketball game, which begins at 5 p.m., and prior to the boys’ varsity basketball game, which begins at 7 p.m. The ceremony will run for approximately 30 minutes, with a reception in the media center immediately following.
