Conflicting reports have indicated that Kristy Malter has been placed on life support. Multiple sources had earlier reported she had died. Malter was a Lifetime Fitness employee who contracted bacterial meningitis. George Miller, director of Oakland County Health and Human Services, would confirm only that Malter was on life support.

Oakland County Health officials are trying to contact over 200 children who could have come in contact with Malter during a summer camp held July 5-11. So far, there are no reports of any signs that anyone else has contracted the illness.
