Boyds Bears at RHPL

A large collection of Boyds Bears collectible resin and stuffed bears, as well as Yesterday’s Child antique reproduction dolls has been donated to the Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) Friends Store. The items are in pristine condition and in their original packaging. According to store manager Darlene Tomczyk, the store is selling the collectibles at prices below those found on sites like E-bay, Amazon, and Craig’s List.

Store volunteers, Marlena McLaughlin, Jean Stevenson, and Judi Davis, couldn’t choose just one bear or doll to hold

Store volunteers have researched the collection and found that they have increased in value steadily since the entire line has been retired and production ceased in 2014. “This generous donation lets us provide our customers an opportunity to save on items they love while making money for the library,” Tomczyk says.

The mohair bears are named and dressed in particular themes, some with an added toy or buddy to complete their look. The porcelain dolls are all hand numbered with the Artist’s Hallmark at the back of the neck. The Dollstone collection is a series of highly detailed resin figurines and statues that call to mind times gone by.

“They are selling pretty quickly,” Tomczyk says. “If you’re interested in adding to a collection, starting a new one, or just looking for a special, high quality gift, you should stop in soon.”

The Friends Store is located on the first floor of the Rochester Hills Public Library. It is run entirely by volunteers. Applications to volunteer are available in the store.
