No special filmmaking equipment is required. Participants can use smartphones, digital cameras, tablets and computers to film and edit their productions, said Donna Ullrich, festival director.

Entries are welcome from individuals, groups, or classes in six categories: fiction, documentary, music video, animation, public service announcement, and experimental. For entry rules and instructions and more information about the festival visit www.flintyouthfilmfestival.com.

The FYMP also sponsors the Archway Blog, a Flint and Genesee County showcase for the art and media work of young people. The blog also provides participants with opportunities to work with area media and art professionals and the opportunity to network with their peers. The Community Foundation of Greater Flint funded the blog.

The Film Festival program also sponsored nine film making workshops during the 2015-2016 school year for interested students and community residents.

Funding to support this program have been provided by the Ruth Mott Foundation, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, and the University of Michigan-Flint.
