Celebrate National Bookmobile Day @Michigan’s Busiest Bookmobile

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 is National Bookmobile Day, a time to celebrate the contributions of mobile library services in the United States.  For over 100 years, bookmobiles have provided access to information and technology to customers in all walks of life. While there are over 900 bookmobiles operating throughout the United States, Michigan’s Busiest Bookmobile is one of 18 mobile libraries in the State of Michigan.

This year, the RHPL Bookmobile is celebrating National Bookmobile Day with a Bookmark Contest.  Participants are asked to use their creativity to design a winning bookmark. Winning bookmarks will be printed for distribution during the week of April 10-16 and all entries will be displayed on the bookmobile as well as online. Entry forms are available on the bookmobile and must be received by Saturday, April 9.

“Libraries are the heart of every community and our library helps our community thrive.  As a vital part of our library, the RHPL Bookmobile brings valuable resources to our customers,” says Christine Lind Hage, Library Director.  “Our bookmobile serves people of all backgrounds, providing access to almost every service available at the Main Library. Due to its popularity, the bookmobile recently expanded its schedule with two new stops on Monday mornings.”

Part of National Library Week, National Bookmobile Day is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), the Association for Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS) and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
