Child Passenger Safety Seats and The Rochester Hills Fire Department

Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the U.S. but many of these deaths can be prevented. Placing children in age- and size-appropriate car seats and booster seats reduces the number of deaths and injuries by more than half.

Effective July 1, 2008, Michigan state law requires that children under age 8 or under 4′ 9″ must be properly restrained in a car seat or booster seat. Children who are under age 8 but taller than 4′ 9″ may use the vehicle seat belt.

The law in Michigan further states that children ages 8 to 16 years old must wear a seat belt no matter where in the vehicle they ride.

To have your Child’s car seat or booster seat inspected to ensure that it is properly installed.  Call the Rochester Hills Fire and EMS Department for an appointment at 248-841-2705.
