By Jeffrey Cuthbertson, Rochester City Council

Summer is upon us and all that Rochester has to offer for recreation is in full swing.  Whether you run on the Paint Creek Trail or play tennis in the Municipal Park, there is lots to do. At the City of Rochester there is always lots to do to build on our thriving business community. This summer brought the publication of our first Rochester Business update. Highlights from this quarter’s update include:

Rochester Takes the Next Step in its Economic Development Strategy

As the Director of Economic and Community Development, Nik Banda is in charge of economic development, code enforcement, planning, building and zoning. Nik also works closely with the Downtown Development Authority and Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce to attract, retain and expand businesses in the City of Rochester. Nik’s primary objective is to attract more office and service industry businesses to the City. City Streamlines its Sign Application Process

The City has overhauled its sign application process and ordinance. The new ordinance improves the process to get sign applications approved quicker. If your business is planning to update or create new signage, your first call should be to the City. City staff will make the process easy for you and ensure the sign meets all of the City’s rules and regulations.

Filmed in Rochester

There have been several commercials filmed in Rochester recently. Ford Motor Company filmed a commercial featuring members of the Rochester Fire Department; a Quicken Loans ad was filmed in the Rochester Municipal Park; Crittenton Hospital used Bean and Leaf Coffee on Main Street as the background for a commercial promoting its Cardiac Unit; and Big Boy will soon be featuring the Big Bright Light Show for the “Boy on the Street” ad campaign. Recently, the Michigan Credit Union League filmed a major commercial throughout the downtown area to promote member services.
