The scenic Clinton River Trail, spanning 16 miles through the five communities of Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Pontiac and Sylvan Lake in Oakland County, will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2019 with a year-long calendar of programs and events for all ages.
Volunteers with Friends of the Clinton River Trail (FCRT) are encouraging hikers, bikers, walkers, birders, canoeists, kayakers plus fishermen and women to take to the trail and enjoy the area history, many sights, amenities and great recreational fun.
The 15th anniversary kick-off takes place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29 at the Rochester Hills Museum at the Van Hoosen Farm. Featured speaker will be Kevin Hanson, co-owner of Hansons Running Shop and co-founder of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, which has trained runners on the trail since the start. 2018 Boston Marathon winner Desiree Linden was a team member and trained for many years on the Clinton River Trail.
“We have benefited from the development of the Clinton River Trail for years,” said Hanson. “Our runners know every mile.”
As a small thank you to the community, the FCRT will provide attendees and participants at all 2019 events with complimentary Clinton River Trail mix, courtesy of Kar’s Nuts.
In addition, students from Avondale High School radio station 89.5 FM will provide public service announcements, interviews, live broadcasts and even a curate a music mix for trail users throughout the anniversary year.
