Clinton River Trail Detour in Rochester

Major Sewer Improvement Project

Work will begin shortly on the installation of a new 21 inch diameter sewer interceptor line in the City of Rochester. This major infrastructure improvement project will necessitate the temporary closure and approximate one-half mile detour of the Clinton River Trail (CRT) between the popular Letica Trailhead and Mill Street. Trail users will be directed to exit the trail and follow a temporary detour path along Second Street.

Installation of the new sewer line is necessary to relieve capacity limitations that currently exist in the city. The new line will be immediately adjacent to the path of the trail in the affected area and will be a fairly deep construction project. For their own safety as well as that of construction workers, trail users are urged to respect the closure and follow the well-marked detour.

Watch for Trail Detour in Rochester

The City of Rochester is scheduling this project in the winter to minimize its impact on trail users. Although CRT is open year round, winter usage, especially with poor snow conditions, is typically far less than other seasons. The best news for trail users is that the last step of the construction project will be to resurface the trail in that area. The construction project is expected to be completed and the detour removed sometime in April.

Questions regarding the progress of construction should be directed to the City of Rochester Department of Public Works at 248.651.5165. Friends of the Clinton River Trail (FCRT) is providing this information as a service to trail users and will attempt to maintain updated trail conditions reports on its website. FCRT is not directly involved in the project.

FCRT is an all-volunteer group committed to promoting the Clinton River Trail as a safe and enjoyable recreation destination. FCRT actively works with each of the five cities through which the 16 mile long trail passes (Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Pontiac and Sylvan Lake) to reflect user needs and to champion improvements to this wonderful facility.
