National and Local Brands Help Battle Financial Toxicity of Crippling Disease
Oakland County businesses are coming together Saturday, August 10 from 12 noon – 4:00 p.m. at The Village of Rochester Hills to help families facing cancer during an inaugural beauty and fitness wellness fair presented by The Woodhouse Day Spa of Rochester Hills.
The first-ever Color of Wellness community event benefits New Day Foundation for Families, a nonprofit in Rochester Hills dedicated to reducing the financial burden and stress caused by cancer. New Day offers financial grants in the form of short-term bill payment services as well as emotional support programs for families as they face the burdens that accompany the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
A recent study published in The American Journal of Medicine discovered that cancer forces more than 42 percent of patients to lose life savings in just two years while 62 percent of cancer patients report being in debt due to their treatment. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be more than 58,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Michigan this year.
The Color of Wellness event features free activities for children, a fashion show, yoga and conditioning classes, juicing demonstrations, entertainment, food, prize raffles, and more. For more information, call 248-564-9577.

“This event is really important because cancer is a debilitating disease physically and the financial consequences can be devastating,” said Woodhouse Day Spa owner Anju Brodbine. “Our goal is to create a fun event that families can participate in while creating more awareness for this wonderful foundation that helps so many local families.”
The Color of Wellness event represents an innovative cancer support partnership between The Woodhouse Day Spa of Rochester Hills and New Day Foundation. Oakland County’s first and only organic-based luxury day spa currently hosts New Day recipients and their caregivers each month to receive complimentary manicures, pedicures and facials at Woodhouse.
“The Color of Wellness event and our partnership with Woodhouse is a gift for the patients and caregivers we serve,” said Gina Kell Spehn, co-founder of New Day Foundation for Families. “We’re grateful to Woodhouse Day Spa for their efforts to uplift the spirit of those fighting cancer. It’s a reminder that they are not alone, and people care.”
