Fans and friends of the 16-mile Clinton River Trail will toast its 15th anniversary Wednesday, May 22 at a free community party starting at 7:00 p.m. at the River Crest Banquet Center, 900 W. Avon Road in Rochester Hills. Complimentary refreshments, prizes and a cash bar will be available.

Attendees will be able to meet two very special guests: Dan Kiefer, visionary founder of the Clinton River Trail who now resides in Pennsylvania; and Dennis Pace, former Board Chair of the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance who will speak to “The Power & Promise of Destination Trails.”

The former abandoned rail corridor today is a popular recreational and economic asset maintained by the five communities of Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Pontiac and Sylvan Lake. Kiefer’s vision, dedication, and commitment were critical factors in the evolution of the trail, according to the current day board members of the Friends of the Clinton River Trail organization, which Dan helped to create.

Moving forward, Pace will illustrate how the expanding trail network in Michigan can accelerate tourism, business development and economic development. He’ll share similar success enjoyed by the Great Allegheny Passage in Pennsylvania and the opportunities at hand with the Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route #1, which extends from South Haven to Port Huron and includes the Clinton River Trail. An inaugural ride is scheduled for September.

The May 22 celebration will also include a special Clinton River Trail music mix provided by the student deejays at WAHS 89.5 FM from Avondale High School. The station is a media partner promoting the events of the yearlong 15th anniversary celebration.
