Paint Creek Trail hosts 12th Annual Labor Day Bridge Walk & Run
The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is offering all community members a chance to participate in a Labor Day Walk and Run right in their own backyard.
The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is organizing the 12th Annual Paint Creek Trail Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk and Run on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Rochester Municipal Park Kiwanis Pavilion. This event is part of the Labor Day Community Walks that are held throughout the state in conjunction with the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Walk.
Two options are being offered to participants: a 2-mile roundtrip walk to Tienken road, or a 10K roundtrip walk or run to Silver Bell road in Oakland Township on the Paint Creek Trail. Onsite registration begins at 8:00am, and the event starts at 9:00am. It is a free community event, with a suggested donation of $5.00 per family for the Bike Lids for Kids program. For more information, including online registration, visit the Events page at www.paintcreektrail.org.
“We are so excited to provide this event for the 12th year. It’s a chance for everyone to enjoy the Paint Creek Trail – a free, accessible nature resource in our communities. It also serves as a reminder how easy it is to incorporate physical activity in your daily routine. Open to all ages and abilities, we will have a free face-painting artist and balloon artist, donuts and giveaways. We are expecting up to 400 participants, and are fortunate to have presenting sponsors Socially Motivated Wellness, Trader Joe’s and Retro Fitness, as well as contributing sponsors Lucido Fine Jewelry, Starbucks Store #09400, Red Knapp’s Dairy Bar, Great Clips on Walton and Dillman & Upton,” said Myers.
David Becker, Chairman of the Paint Creek Trailways Commission, feels this event is a way for the Trailways Commission to show appreciation to the residents and trail visitors. “We enjoy terrific support from all of our communities, and visitors to the area. The Paint Creek Trail is often at the top of local surveys in terms of park usage, and we are consistently named ‘Best Bike Trail’ and ‘Best Running Route’ by the readers of a local Detroit magazine. We are proud to provide a great trail experience, and this event is one way to show our appreciation for our communities and users,” said Becker. The Paint Creek Trail is 8.9 miles long, and was the first non-motorized Rail-to-Trail in the State of Michigan.
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation have endorsed the Paint Creek Trail Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk and Run as a quality physical activity event through the Pure Michigan FITness Series endorsement program.
