Mike Bishop announced his run for U.S. Congress on April 2. He hopes to win the 8th District seat currently held by Mike Rogers. Rogers is not seeking re-election. Bishop tells the residents he wants to fix Washington and cut federal spending. His message also stated his reason for launching the campaign comes from his commitment to conservative principles.

After spending two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives, he moved to serve in the Michigan Senate. Term limits forced him out of office. Bishop ran for Oakland County Prosecutor in 2012 but lost to the incumbent Democrat, Jessica Cooper.

Mike Bishop is currently the Chief Legal Officer for International Bankcard Corporation and is an adjunct professor at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Prior to public office, Bishop was a private practice attorney. He lives in Rochester with his wife Cristina and their three children.

“Mike Bishop is the right conservative for the 8th District. Bishop will stand up to liberal policies of the Obama administration, just like he stood up and fought for us against the liberal policies of the Granholm administration,” said Rogers, “Mike Bishop is a proven conservative leader who has courage and conviction beyond reproach.”

“I believe Mike Bishop is the kind of conservative, results-oriented leader that will make the citizens of the 8th District proud,” said Rogers, “As a conservative leader, Mike Bishop shares my commitment for strong constituent service to the families in the 8th district. I fully support Mike Bishop for Congress.”

Pete Hoekstra Endorses Bishop

“Mike Bishop and I have a long history of fighting for conservative principles. Bishop is a conservative leader who will be a great Congressman,” said former Congressman Pete Hoekstra. “Mike Bishop fought tirelessly against the liberal policies of Jennifer Granholm and will continue to fight tirelessly against the failed policies of Barack Obama. That is why I am proud to endorse Mike Bishop to be the next Congressman from the 8th District.”

Mike Bishop goes up against Rochester Hills Bryan Barnett in the Republican Primary on August 5 with possible other candidates in that race. The winner will take on the Democrat in the general election on November 4. Rochester Media will continue to spotlight candidates from both parties along the way.
