CoolYo Frozen Yogurt opened on May 3. In just six weeks, they have become a popular destination for those looking to score a cool treat. On the border of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills, CoolYo Frozen Yogurt is located on the corner of Walton Blvd. and Squirrel Road across from Oakland University. Students from Notre Dame, Oakland Christian and OU have made CoolYo a regular stop.

Rochester Media paid CoolYo a visit and found that both customers and employees come from the surrounding communities. Twenty-five people now work at the new business, coming from Rochester Hills, Pontiac, Lake Orion, Auburn Hills, and Clarkston, to name a few. Customers were also making the drive from these neighboring towns, including West Bloomfield and Ortonville, since they discovered their craving for the cool treats offered at CoolYo.

Something for Everyone

Really, CoolYo Frozen Yogurt has what seems to be an endless line of toppings to design your frozen yogurt treat your way. First, start with the size cup you want – everything is weighed at the end – you only pay for what you put in the cup, not the size of the cup. Second, choose a flavor and preference of yogurt. They have nonfat, low fat, no sugar added, non-dairy, Greek, vegetarian, and gluten free yogurts. Flavors change, but with seven self-serve machines with two flavors each, a frozen treat connoisseur has 14 total flavors to choose from. Twisting and mixing the different flavors is quite common.

Finally, add the toppings. The long list of general toppings might make you wish you had grabbed the large cup; all the favorites are available: Chocolate chips, Kit Kats, Oreo Cookies, Gummi Worms, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Juice Popping Bobas. While all that yummy stuff is hard to resist, fresh fruit toppings are also available, such as strawberry, blueberry, kiwi and more. Don’t forget the hot and cold toppings; hot caramel, hot fudge or whipped creams are just a few of the liquid highlights to put the final addition on your creation.

Yo!

CoolYo Frozen Yogurt owners, Jean Washington and Cheryl Gudobba, selected Yo Cream by Dannon as their yogurt supplier. A healthier choice with many options, both Jean and Cheryl wanted a product they could be happy with as active moms with active kids.

CoolYo is online at www.coolyofrozenyogurt.com and they are engaged on social media, including Facebook and Twitter. Every Monday, the shop’s penguin mascot, Yo, goes missing in the community. Customers always find Yo – they call it a “rescue” – and bring Yo back for a free 10 oz. yogurt.
