County Employees Give Record $7,000 to Trooper’s Family

Oakland County employees donated a record $7,000 through a Special Casual Day fundraiser to the family of Michigan State Trooper Chad Wolf, who died in the line of duty on Aug. 28 while on patrol in northern Oakland County. Wolf was struck by a vehicle towing a trailer and was dragged several miles on I-75. County Executive L. Brooks Patterson gave the check to Wolf’s district commander, Capt. Monica Yesh, during a brief news conference on Wednesday.

Brooks 9-30-15“We normally reserve Special Casual Days for county employees who need assistance,” Patterson said. “But this was a special case of a state trooper who died patrolling Oakland County and leaves behind four young children. We just had to help.”

County employees held a Special Casual Day Sept. 3 to raise money for Wolf’s family. A typical Casual Day collects $300-$400. Past Special Casual Days have seen up to $2,500.

“On behalf of Erin Wolf and her children, the outpouring of support from the Oakland county employees is overwhelming,” Yesh said. “Their support is indicative of the kind of thoughtful messages and donations we have received from all over the United States this past month.”

Oakland County’s Casual Day program allows employees in participating departments and divisions to wear jeans or dress casually on Thursdays or Fridays for a minimum donation of $1. Since its inception 22 years ago, Oakland County employees have donated well over $700,000 dollars to various charities and causes, touching the lives of thousands of people. No taxpayer funds are used in the Casual Day program.
