Crafting your own Bluebird House for Nesting and Birding History

Thursday, April 5 – 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cranberry Lake Farm Hen House – the long red building, 388 W. Predmore Road, Oakland Township.

Eastern Bluebird

  • $25 fee includes materials to build a wood Gilwood Slotbox Bluebird house. Must RSVP to reserve your bird house kit to assemble as only so many will be available. Please reserve yours early, however, if we run out, the plans and supply list will be available so you can buy the materials to build your own.
  • $5 fee for presentation only and to make and leave with your own bird treat.

In the early 20th century the Eastern Bluebird population was on the decline due to loss of habitat and competition for nesting sites from the aggressive house sparrow.

  • Learn how to monitor nest and egg count for protection and safe hatching.
  • Presentation on history of bluebirds and interesting facts.
  • What kinds of bird treats will your bluebirds eat? We will make a bird treat recipe.
  • Learn how to follow a plan to build your own bluebird nest box house.
  • This class is for 12 years and up as some use of tools may require help.
