Creating a Culture of Giving Back in Rochester Hills

Third Annual “30 Days of Giving” Program in Rochester Hills

Rochester Hills has continued their tradition of community service through the annual 30 Days of Giving Program. From bake sales to clothing drives, city employees are finding ways to give back to their community.

As a department, employees come together to choose one or two causes that they are passionate about and find a way to help. The DPS team used their skill set to partner with Rochester High School to help with the construction of new batting cages. They also worked with a local asphalt supplier to assist an elderly couple with the rehabilitation of their driveway.

“We enjoy getting the chance to make a real difference in their lives,” states DPS Director Allan Schneck. “We’re proud of the work that we do through 30 days of giving.”

The Finance team choose the OPC Senior Center, where they spent the day helping their kitchen staff. After a long day of baking, they made over 1,300 cookies that will be part of the Meals one Wheels holiday baskets.

Some of the programs this year also gave residents the opportunity to get involved. Outside of the Mayor’s Office, the city hosts a Neighborhood House giving tree, which gives holiday gifts to children in need. Residents also dropped off coats for the annual “Coats for the Cold” drive sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Over 200 employees will take part in this program. “Giving team members a chance to get out and involved in our community has been incredibly rewarding,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “We are blessed to have such generous and invested employees.”
