Dear Crabby,
I have had a pain in my neck for a few weeks now and it seems to affect everything I do. Have you ever dealt with this? What can I do to relieve the pain?
Sincerely, O.I. Hurt
Dear O.I. Hurt,
Well, I am not sure what exactly you mean by a “pain in the neck,” since Mrs. Crabby is usually referring to me when she says this! The way she alleviates her pain is to go scrapbooking or out with her lady friends. Yes, many times throughout our marriage, I have been referred to as the proverbial pain in the neck. She has told me that when we made our vows and said the line “till death do we part,” it was never specified what would cause our death. I think that is her passive-aggressive way of saying that she is crazy about me and cannot live without me! Enough about us and our wonderful marriage though. I am going to assume you are referring to a physical pain in the neck for the sake of my time here. I have actually had neck and back pain many times throughout my life. I can testify that it is not fun and it can certainly hinder your life! The worst is when you cannot sleep at night because every time you roll or toss it hurts worse! I had a neck injury one time, and it caused a pinched nerve that ran down my shoulder all the way to my elbow. It made me even more crabby for a while. I finally went to a chiropractor for help. I guess it is like that dog that was whining and moaning because it was laying on a nail out on the front porch. When someone asked its owner why he didn’t just move off the nail, the owner replied, “He will move when he can’t tolerate the pain any longer!” It seems so simple, but we are all kind of like that dumb dog, aren’t we? I found this great chiropractor in the area and went a handful of times until the pain was gone. It was amazing that it was that simple. Some people told me to consider a shot of some sort in my neck, others talked about surgery, still others recommended heavy pain-killers from the doctor. I figured I had nothing to lose if I tried this chiropractor a couple of times and I am sure glad I did. So I think each person needs to make their own choice, but it is worth investigating what is out there. Why live life on top of that nail when you can simply move off of it? Good luck, and let me know how it turns out for you!
Sincerely, Dear Crabby
