Dear Crabby, With the ban on concession sales right now, I’m curious, is it illegal to sneak food into a movie theater?
Sincerely, Mike and Ike Twizzler
Dear Mike and Ike,
That’s a big question right now. I’m not sure if it is technically “illegal” anywhere, but it certainly is not allowed at most theaters.
The theaters being allowed to reopen was good news, however guests are still required to mask up for the entire show. Food and drink will not be sold or consumed until the governor wants to see a movie – I mean, until she opens up indoor dinning. That being said, until that happens, how many people will try to sneak food in?
Well, a lot I’m guessing. Because I used to way back when – me being me – I just could not justify spending four times the retail cost to buy popcorn, soda, or candy. These days, I don’t drink soda, but I still enjoy a bucket of buttery popcorn at the theater … but I’ve never figured out how to sneak in buttery popcorn. I used to fill my pockets with candy, such as M&Ms and Reese’s Pieces. They were easy to hide in pockets. Going in the winter is easy, with big coats. Going in the summer, well, you still got take a coat because of the freezing cold air conditioning. So, I would reluctantly buy the popcorn, then sneak in the candy. And taking a date makes it ever easier, woman have handbags!
Have your date fill her purse with candy, that way if she gets caught, you can still enjoy the movie without her. Keep in mind, you’ll be deciding which is better, the movie or a second date!
Hopefully, the food and drink sales will return soon. Until then, you can bet people are sneaking in food. And with fewer people in the theater (due to social distancing), you’ll have a greater chance of being caught. And with the high price of a movie ticket, that’s a risky endeavor. You won’t get arrested for bringing in food, but you will get kicked out!
Me, I’ll stay in my recliner eating popcorn and candy at more reasonable rates and watching the many DVDs I picked up at the local estate sales.
