There seems to be a big push towards all these electric cars today. What do you think about them? Are they safe? Will they work? Would you drive one?

I have not made it a secret that I love my Oldsmobile and always have. The trusty Olds and I have been through a lot together. I am not sure how these new electric and high birds and low birds are going to work on our roads today. My Olds weighs a million pounds and burns as much oil as it does gas on most days, so I am certainly not going to win the “Al Gore Going Green” prize for my city. However, I am concerned about these new “green” cars for their size and weight. I remember a buddy of mine bought one of those little MG Midgets in 1965 and thought it was the greatest thing ever. He thought it was all fun and games until the other guys and I picked his car up one night and carried it onto his back porch for him. When he woke up he thought someone stole it, and as he went to call the police he saw it staring at him right on the back porch. However, it was the best car to take into the city because we could park almost anywhere with it, so long as there were only two of us going for the trip. I guess as far as your new fangled electric car goes, they have to make them to government standards so they must be safe. If you live in an area with a lot of snow, you may want to have a second car or a back-up plan to get to work. However, as far as saving the trees and keeping the landscape nice around here, I think these things will definitely help the cause. I may be stuck in my ways and like the masses of metal surrounding me, but I have to admit that the rising gas and oil prices have not been in my favor the last few years. As far as your question of whether I would drive one or not, let me answer it this way: I am from an earlier generation, and the popular cars of my time were the ’57 Chevy and the ’62 GTO. These cars had a certain look and pizazz that really grabbed my generation’s attention. So if one of these electric car manufacturers decide to make their car look like that, I may be tempted to give one a whirl. Until then though, I’ll only be driving one of them on the golf course!
