Dear Crabby, What was your First Column about?
Sincerely, New Reader
Dear New Reader,
I assume you mean you’re a new reader to my column and not a new reader in general, but if you are, you’re in luck because I don’t use big words and my grammar is atrocious (oops, there’s a big word). Either way, you’ve come to the right place to get all the news you really need – at least that’s how I feel – here at The Community Edge (my column being number one!).
I had to do some digging to find my first column. It was about what to do with bored children on summer vacation. And, on a side note, I noticed just how much I overused the exclamation point in those early columns! Anyhow, we’re close to that time of year again and you should be thinking about what to do with the kids. Maybe you’re looking forward to spending time with the little munchkins – you’ll be lucky to last a week … and you’ll be ready to sign a petition for year-round schooling (which is a good idea anyway).
House work! Yard work! Take them to a park! Put them in camp! Sign them up for sports! Basically, wear them out. You want them good and tired every night. Plus they’ll learn some valuable skills, and doing hard work is good for them. It makes them stronger, smarter, and better adjusts them to life … and if that’s just a myth, at least you got the garage cleaned out and the trees trimmed for the year.
Most important, enjoy this time with them, they grow up so fast – it’s a true cliché – talk to them, listen to them, and be there … just be there!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend and Happy Start to Summer!
Sincerely, Dear Crabby! (I know our editor hates all those exclamation points, but they just feel good to use!)
