Dear Crabby,
The hype around the new James Bond movie Spectre coming out in November is huge, which got me wondering: who is your favorite actor who has played James Bond?
Thanks, Gil Gadget
Dear Gil Gadget,
As I’ve mentioned to my loyal readers before, I’m not too big of a movie buff, but just like The Duke, James Bond is a rare exception to rule. To date, seven men have suited up as Bond, James Bond—the martini-swilling womanizer with a license to kill. If I’m being honest, I mostly like all the cool gizmos he gets to play with and all the fancy cars he gets to drive. If the job description didn’t require drinking or killing, I’d sign up! Before I gave my answer, I wanted to make sure I had all my facts straight, so I did a little research and discovered something that I never knew: David Niven played a retired Bond in 1967’s Casino Royale! The same David Niven from The Pink Panther movies. Ain’t that a hoot? Of course Casino Royale was remade in 2006 and starred the current Bond, Daniel Craig. Anyway, I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. My favorite James Bond is… Sean Connery! There was just something about the way he strode across the screen and delivered his lines. Also, the films he was in always seemed to have the best bad guys like ‘Odd Job’ in Goldfinger. While the other actors who have inhabited the role have done well, Connery will always be Bond to me.
Now, I think I’ll go pop in Dr. No, which is the movie where we first learn about SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion). See what I did there?
Sincerely, Dear Crabby
