Dear Crabby, Will there ever be a Rush Hour again?

Dear Crabby, Will there ever be a Rush Hour again?

Sincerely, Slo Go Mo

Dear Slo Go,

Unlike the rock band or the broadcaster, gone but not forgotten, Rush Hour is sure to return … one day, maybe sooner than we think.

For the last year, we’ve enjoyed a few positives from the pandemic. One being less traffic on the roads – everyday was a Sunday afternoon drive. And since people have reportedly done well working from home, many may stay working from home. But is that good for everyone.

No. Students have suffered. Way too much screen time, lack of supervision, computer distractions, and more, have left kids melting in front of that blue light horror show. Stress, lack of focus, and depression have set in, and our children are ecstatic to be back in the classroom.

Of course, not all the kids have returned. In person school resumed this week for those who signed up for it last fall, before the second and third waves hit.

I can already see a difference in the traffic on the roads. I enjoyed the roads during the pandemic, really for the first time in years. I didn’t have to yell out my window at slow drivers, minivan moms, or teenager terrors who just got their license (although that was fun). But alas, slowly the traffic is increasing.

Cars and vans are whipping up and down the subdivision streets again, trying to avoid the lights and traffic of the main roads, as they rush their in-person kids back-and-forth to school. Headlights have again started shinning in my windows in the early morning hours, and once more I can tell it’s a weekday and we’re back to having only one Sunday afternoon per week. Rush Hour is reappearing.

While not back completely, it has returned. The only benefit is that I can revisit the multiple ways of shouting out the car window at drivers who need a little encourage to “get that bucket of bolts out of my way!”
