Dear Crabby,
Between the GOP debate last week and Donald Trump’s visit to Michigan this week, I am curious… would you vote for him? He seems to have a no-nonsense approach to politics that you would appreciate.
Thanks, Billy Bipartisan
Dear Mr. Bipartisan,
That’s an excellent question, young man. Let me say that as a general rule I try to stay away from discussing politics… with anyone. It’s not that I don’t have an opinion — quite the opposite in fact as all my loyal readers know. There used to be a time when you could intelligently debate the issues with your fellow man (and I’m using the term in its general sense, so ladies I’m not ignoring you). But now with all the glitzy sound bites and social media, these debates look more like reality TV than educated people honestly vying for the most important job in the world! I tried watching the debate last week, but between the so-called moderators, the questions, and some of the childish antics the candidates displayed, I switched over to a John Wayne western. At least then it was easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys. The day after the debate Trump issued a press release proclaiming he ‘outperformed his rivals.’ That man cracks me up, but at least he believes what he’s selling.
I can see why you’d think I’d vote for him. The man certainly isn’t afraid to speak his mind and you know that’s a quality I admire, and something career politicians have forgotten how to do. What worries me is that while Trump tells it like it is, I haven’t heard much of a detailed plan on how he’s gonna clean up health care, immigration, and the like. And ‘The Donald’ is not exactly known for his tact. Now I don’t know about you, but I certainly wouldn’t want him negotiating world peace — a business deal? Sure, that’s fine. But can you see him at a summit filled with world leaders, not getting his way, looking at the German chancellor and saying, ‘You’re fired!’ And put him in a room with Putin? I’ve already lived through one World War, thank you very much. Honestly, I don’t think he’ll receive the Republican Party nomination, so whether or not I vote for him really doesn’t matter. I will say this though: the road to the nomination sure is going to be an entertaining ride!
Hope that answers your question and don’t forget to vote when the time comes!
Sincerely, Dear Crabby
