Deck Art 2015 Expands Merchant Participation for its Fifth Annual Skateboard Art Competition and Exhibition

South Street Skateshop is calling all artists: Elementary School, Middle School, High School, College, Adult, and Corporate to participate in its Fifth Annual Skateboard Art Competition and Exhibition! South Street Skateshop

Deck Art 2015 is a skateboard art competition and exhibition that allows artists to provide their unique work on a blank skateboard deck. This year, entries will be judged by the public and those entries with the highest number of votes, within each category, will be awarded prizes.

Due to its ever-growing popularity, organizers have expanded this year’s event to include as many as 50 local merchants, transforming Deck Art 2015 into a downtown Rochester crawl. Last year’s Deck Art 2014 drew over 420 artists from all over southeastern Michigan, California, Kansas, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Arizona, and Canada. Deck Art 2015 is expected to draw even more. Completed artwork will be artfully displayed throughout participating restaurants and businesses for onlookers to enjoy as they stroll in and out of stores admiring the uniquely designed pieces of artwork. Adding to the festivities, food trucks, and side street entertainment, will return this year!

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host, Deck Art 2015’s Thursday Night Kickoff on May 14 from 5-9 p.m. This evening will include a sneak peek at Deck Art 2015 entries as well as family and kids’ activities, food trucks, and side street entertainment. Deck Art 2015 continues on Friday May 15, 2015 from 5- 9 p.m. with The Saline Fiddlers from 7-9 p.m. and of course, food trucks. Pick up your maps at any participating restaurant or business!

Registration forms are available now at South Street Skateshop located at 410 Main Street in downtown Rochester, or forms may be printed from the website southstreetskateshop.com. Decks will be distributed beginning February 2, 2015. Registration Fee of $20.00 (plus tax) includes one (1) blank skateboard deck; registration deadline is Friday May 1, 2015. Participants are encouraged to register well before the deadline date so that they can receive their deck well in advance and begin creating!
