Deck Art 2016

South Street Skateshop is calling all artists

Elementary School, Middle School, High School, College, and Adult to participate!! Deck Art 2016 is a skateboard art competition and exhibition. Artists are asked to provide their unique work on a blank skateboard deck. This year, entries will be judged by judges provided by Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA); the winning entry, within each category, will be awarded prizes.

Due to its ever growing popularity, organizers have expanded this year’s event to include as many as 50 local merchants, transforming Deck Art 2016 into a downtown Rochester crawl. Last year’s Deck Art 2015 drew over 425 artists from all over South Eastern Michigan; and in the past the states of California, Kansas, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Arizona, as well as Canada were represented. Deck Art 2016 is expected to draw even more. Completed artwork will be artfully displayed throughout participating restaurants and businesses for onlookers to enjoy as they stroll in and out of stores admiring the uniquely designed pieces of artwork.

Thursday Night Kick Off May 19

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host, Deck Art 2016’s Thursday Night Kickoff on May 19th from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. It will include a sneak peek at the Deck Art 2016 entries, as well as family and kids activities, food, and side street entertainment. Deck Art 2016 continues on Friday May 20, 2016 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. with The Saline Fiddlers from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Pick up maps at any participating restaurant or business.

Registration begins February 1

Registration forms are available at southstreetskateshop.com or at South Street Skateshop 410 Main Street in downtown Rochester. Decks will be distributed beginning Monday February 1, 2016. Registration Fee of $20.00 (plus tax) includes one blank skateboard deck. Registration deadline is Sunday May 1, 2016. Participants are encouraged to register well before the deadline date so that they can receive their deck well in advance and begin creating.
