Dequindre Road Reconstruction Project


The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the Macomb County Department of Roads, will begin the reconstruction of Dequindre Road from Burningbush Drive to West Utica Road on the Troy/Sterling Heights and Rochester Hills/Shelby Township borders on Monday, June 20.

The approximate $7.7 million project will be funded mostly with federal dollars. The remaining amount will be shared by RCOC, Macomb Department of Roads, Troy, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights and Shelby Township. The project includes:

  • Reconstruction of Dequindre Road from Burningbush Drive to West Utica Road
  • Most is currently five lanes & will be reconstructed
  • Two lane section widened to five lanes
  • Traffic-signal upgrades
  • Improved drainage
  • Operational improvements of the east/west legs of the Dequindre/South Blvd./Dobry Rd. intersection

During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction in addition to a center left turn lane. Motorists can expect delays. There also is a planned closure of Utica Road at Dequindre; however, the closure period and dates will be identified at a later time and a detour posted.

The contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township. The project is expected to conclude in late November.
