A Talk by Skip Davis
June 6, 2013, 7:00 pm
You would love to collect beautiful, original art for your home, but you don’t know where to start. You feel a little intimidated walking into a gallery and making a purchase, or you think you can’t afford to buy something special. You think collecting art is for people with specialized knowledge.
Here is an opportunity to gain some confidence about purchasing art. Join us at Paint Creek Center for the Arts for a talk with Detroit area collector, designer, art lover and arts advocate Skip Davis. Learn some of the knowledge he has acquired over many years of collecting art and objects that he loves. He’ll offer some guidance on where to look for works that may be priced affordably for the beginning collector. He’ll discuss the impact of purchasing artworks made by area artists, and how to make art that you love work in your home.
Skip started out collecting art of all kinds many years ago, and has learned a thing or two along the way. He will talk about his experiences as a collector, what drives him to collect a certain kind of work or a particular artist, and what he looks for when considering an artwork for his collection. Skip is a warm, engaging and knowledgeable speaker whose friendly, informal approach will make for an enjoyable and rewarding evening. The talk is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Join us for an enjoyable evening talk on Thursday, June 6 at 7:00 pm. Visitors who join us for Skip’s talk will have an opportunity to preview PCCA’s Student and Faculty Show, which opens on Friday, June 7, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
PCCA exhibitions are sponsored by The Athena Group, Dokka Fasteners, Gerald Salerno – Max Broock Realtors,
the International Academy of Design & Technology, Rochester Hills Spine Care and WiT.
This exhibit is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs,
the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kresge Foundation.
