A few weeks ago I had the privilege of meeting clothing designer Colin McConnell. McConnell is a clothing designer who co-founded Detroit Respect with his buddy Michael Haas. They were talking one day about the negativity surrounding the Motor City and trying to come up with a way to combat that destructive negativity with something positive. McConnell said, “We feel strongly about the power of positive thinking and how negative thoughts can hurt just as much, if not more.” They came up with a fun clothing line of tank tops and t-shirts to represent the city of Detroit.

Their inspiration for designs come from what Detroit once was. They look at the history, art, music, food and culture of Detroit and implement those ideas into their designs. “We hope that it inspires people to what Detroit can be once again.” stated McConnell. Detroit Respect reminds us that we live in a great city that can be great again. The shirts are all designed and printed right here in downtown Rochester on South Street. You can choose from a variety of t-shirts and tank tops to represent The D.
