Discover Newfound Friends at Meadow Brook Theatre

Special One-Night Fundraising Event Brings Real-Life Heroes from Gander to Meadow Brook Theatre

In conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and Meadow Brook Theatre’s production of Come From Away, Meadow Brook Theatre will host a powerful, one-night-only fundraising event on March 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be a moderated panel hosted by Artistic Director, Travis Walter, featuring four special guests from Newfoundland whose real-life experiences inspired the Broadway hit Come From Away. The evening will conclude with a reception for all in attendance

The theatre welcomes the following guests:

Claude Elliott, Mayor of Gander
Derm Flynn, Mayor of Appleton
Oz Fudge, Constable in Gander
Brian Mosher, News Reporter from Gander

During this special evening, the Newfoundlanders will share personal reflections and firsthand stories from those extraordinary days — offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from the individuals whose kindness captured the world’s attention.

These distinguished guests were among the community leaders and residents who sprang into action when 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were unexpectedly diverted to the town of Gander following the closure of U.S. airspace on 9/11. For five days, the people of Gander and neighboring communities provided food, shelter, comfort, and compassion to thousands of stranded travelers.

Meadow Brook Theatre’s production of the Broadway smash hit Come From Away, running from March 18 to April 12, tells the remarkable true story of the planes grounded in Newfoundland and the bonds formed between locals and the “come from aways.” Written ten years after the attacks, the musical celebrates humanity, resilience, and the enduring power of generosity in the face of tragedy.

Tickets for this special fundraising event are $30 and are available through the Meadow Brook Theatre box office. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster.com. Seating is limited for this one-night engagement.
