Editorial: National Friends of Libraries Week

Dear Editor,

October 20-26, 2013, is the sixth annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries week making it a good time to publicly thank the Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library who contribute so much of their time and expertise to significantly enhance our services. Our Friends group began in 1961 and over the course of the past 53 years they have donated over $2,000,000 to cover the costs of children’s programming, special collections, and equipment. They also provided the $30,000 matching funds to start the library endowment.

Today they continue to support the library with annual gifts ranging from $125,000 to $175,000.  The over 750 members of the Friends work hard to provide many of our library’s programs and services.

I know that the Rochester Hills Public Library is a source of pride for our community. Our Friends group is a source of pride as well.  I hope this week everyone will call the library (248-650-7160) to find out how they can join and support this outstanding group.

Sincerely,

Christine Lind Hage
