Forging Thunderbolts: Detroit and the Second World War

To mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, University of Detroit Mercy history professor Gregory Sumner leads a discussion of how Detroit and its people were transformed during those years on Thursday, October 15 and 29 at 7 p.m. at the Rochester Hills Public Library. Dr. Sumner will read from his forthcoming book on the subject, and audience members are invited to share their stories about The Lone Ranger, ration coupons and scrap drives, streetcars, ballrooms and movie balconies, and the exploits of GI Joe, Rosie the Riveter and Wendy the Welder. You may register for one or both evenings.
