If you’re 50 years or older and would like to shake up your fitness routine, then you’ll want to check out the exciting new classes being offered at the Older Persons’ Commission (OPC) state-of-the-art Health & Wellness Center located in Rochester, MI. Beginning Wednesday, October 1, the OPC will be rolling out a variety of new classes (programmed with the working class in mind) to try including QiGong (an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.), Scuba Diving, and Ballet.
Always wanted to learn ballet? OPC is offering a Beginning Ballet and Barre Stretch Class to people new to ballet. This is a progressive class so each week participants will learn and gain more ballet skills while improving fitness.
If you are staying on top of fitness trends you know that ballet & barre workouts, which are designed to give you a long, lean dancer-like physique, are all the rage these days. With devotees like Madonna, Kelly Ripa, and Natalie Portman, it’s not surprising that women everywhere are flocking to ballet & barre workout classes. But it’s not just Hollywood hype! Ballet-inspired workouts are a great way to develop lean muscle mass while improving your balance, flexibility, and range of motion!
One reason for their success is that they really provide results. Most ballet and barre enthusiasts rave about the physical benefits of the workout. With consistency, participants find that their bodies become slimmer and more “chiseled.” Others simply get addicted to the fun dance inspired workouts set to great music and challenging choreography.
Ladies should wear comfortable clothing or ballet specific attire. Men can wear sweats and a t-shirt. Classes will be offered Monday and Wednesday afternoons (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.), and Monday evenings (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.).
In addition to ballet & barre, the OPC Health & Wellness Department is also expanding its Fall programming in other areas, including a professionally guided Introduction to Scuba Diving and Qigong!
Previously mentioned classes are open to OPC members only. Scuba Diving and Beginning Ballet and Barre Stretch are pre-registration programs. To register for any of these classes, please call the cashier’s desk at 248-608-0251 or stop into OPC.
