Rochester High School Falcon Marching Band in the Community
For Falcon Marching Band (FMB) members, band is not just about the glory of performing under the bright lights of their new stadium. Being part of the marching band is about being part of Rochester’s vibrant, supportive community. On Sunday, September 10, the band, under the direction of Mr. David A. Uhrig, marched through Rochester Municipal Park during the Art and Apples Festival. At the band shell, they entertained the crowd with songs from their 2017 show, “Music of the Five Senses.” Audience members danced to hits like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “I Want Candy.” Even though it was an early weekend morning, and very chilly, the Falcon Marching Band was in great spirits and very happy to be playing for their hometown.
On Wednesday, September 13, the band loaded up their gear again and headed to Bloomer Park to entertain members of the Older Person’s Commission at their annual picnic. Over 300 guests grooved along to Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through the Grape Vine” and The Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There.” Senior Drum Major Lizabeth Desmet says, “The FMB loves performing because it brings the community together. Families and friends of all ages listen to our music and it’s easy to tell by the smiles on their faces that they enjoy the shows we put on.”
