Federal Road Funds in Oakland County Meeting

The Oakland County Federal Aid Committee (FAC) will conduct a Funding Committee meeting on February 7 at 9:00 a.m. at the Wixom Community Center, 49015 Pontiac Trail, Wixom.

The Funding Committee is responsible for selecting road-improvement projects to receive federal road funds anticipated to come to Oakland County.  It is made up of representatives of the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), SMART (the suburban bus system) and all communities in the county. During the meeting, the Funding Committee will look at projects submitted for 2020 federal road funds coming to the county. The projects must be on roads that are eligible for federal road funds and under county or local jurisdiction in Oakland County.

For 2020, the FAC Funding Committee received road-improvement project requests totaling nearly $72 million and will have approximately $16.4 million to award. Federal road funds are typically programmed three years prior to construction.

Projects are selected based on an objective point system – all projects that are submitted are rated and ranked based on the point system, which takes into account safety considerations, traffic volumes, traffic operations, cost and other factors.
