The Rochester-Avon Historical Society presents “Fidelia Woolley Gillette: A Thinker of Uncommon Breadth” with Maureen Thalmann

Local author and historical researcher Maureen Thalmann will present, “Fidelia Woolley Gillette: A Thinker of Uncommon Breadth” for the Rochester-Avon Historical Society on Thursday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Rochester Hills Public Library in the Multipurpose Room. Thalmann, a former staff member of the Rochester Hills Museum and a current member of the historical society, will discuss the life and times of Gillette, an author, activist, suffragist, and one of America’s first ordained women. Gillette used her rhetorical and literary gifts to improve and inspire the lives of nineteenth century women. Still, Gillette was disappointed by her own family, including her actress daughter Florence Gillette.

This meeting is free and open to the public.

Thalmann will be releasing a new book about Gillette later this year. Her last book, Petticoat Surgeon: The Extraordinary Life of Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen, was released in 2015.
