First Street Lofts Break Ground in Rochester Today

The City of Rochester will be adding a six-story 46 unit residential building to its thriving downtown. First Street Lofts received approval from the City last year and will begin construction in late April. A ground breaking event has been planned for Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the building site, located on the northeast corner of First and Walnut Streets, according to a press release from City Manager Jaymes Vettraino.

The press release went on to say that the loft style units will blend traditional design with modern features. The development includes a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments with underground parking. Owner Bret Russell, stated, “As a local developer, we are very excited to build this apartment building in Rocehster.”

During his State of the City Mayor Jeffrey T. Cuthbertson featured the project as one of three new multi-unit residential developments in the City. Regarding this project, Mayor Cuthbertson stated, “First Street Lofts is an important residential project in the heart of downtown that will add to the vibrancy of our City.”

Director of Community and Economic Development Nik Banda stated, “Based on all the calls we get for new loft units with private parking, this development will be a huge hit for our community as well as a great fit for the southern part of town.” He added, “The more folks living downtown within walking distance means more business for our local shops, without an increase in demand for parking!”

Joe LoChirco, Senior Project Manager, commented, “I’m excited to be leading the team in building First Street Lofts.”
